hi joegardner mhet and dirtgrinder,

thank you so much for welcoming me, BTW i am from a city called chennai capital of the state called tamil nadu in south india.

Well in india we have a lot of cyclists who use bicycle as a means for commuting but cycling for pleasure/hobbying is rare and i am one of those rare species.

I used to commute to work by bike(6km+6km/3.75+3.75mi) and occasionally by suburban train.

My bike is not a geared one, it need'nt be since most of my city is flat.

However i am looking for a geared bike, it would be really great if members can advise me about the kind that would work out for some real action.(BTW my max speed on flat track 25mph, 40kmph for 2 mins).

Welcome to this forum.
I am always interested in other areas that people are cycling. Would you be able to post photos of yourself, bike and area?
When you commute, is it through a city, urban area or country. What type of work can a cyclist get in that part of India?
Signed,
Curious

Hi all,

Until now i had never thought of filming me or my bike but i'll do it in the near future.

I commute thru the central part of the city, a mix of heavy traffic roads & streets. In India nobody gives a damn about road rules, particularly heavy vehicle drivers. The statistics are shocking 90000+deaths a year, fatalities are mostly pedestrians, two wheelers and cyclists. There are no stop signs and folks dont care to stop at intersections or signals, i am happy to be alive at the end of each day.

Well those who commute to work by cycle are generally considered as the ones who cant afford a motorbike! so its mostly school children, people using cycles for small errands, electricians, plumbers, POLICE, etc etc...

There are some companies that do sponsor professional cyclists and if you are good at state or district(county) level and lucky enough you might end up in government jobs or some big private companies.

But the oppurtunities for professional cyclists flows like a trickle and it is better pursuing it as a hobby at ones own expense.

That's it for now.

thank you,
srinipartha
