Steel. Have two steel bikes and they are amazing. Next bike which will be a tandem is going to be steel as well. Burley makes a sweet tandem out of Platinum OX.
After that... I might look at a carbon frame.

Steel because I cant afford Ti. At the risk of starting a BF war, I have never been a fan of Al or Carbon framed bikes.

Depends on the use and engineering for a given bike. Once you get to the top players in each material they are all good. I still have a slight bias against Al yet form bikes of the early '90s, yes, I know things have come a long way.

I don't have any trouble with Aluminum but I rented a Lemond Steel/Carbon and thought what a sweet ride.....
