I got a road bike for christmas and i am trying to sell my mtn bike.... i know there might be some times when my buddies want me to go mtn biking though.

Questions: would my 7500FX hold up to some light to moderate singletrack riding?? more importantly, would the rims hold up?


I consider myself to be a smooth rider... but, i'm not sure if this bike can take it. oh, and i'd be getting some cyclocross tires before riding singletrack... not using the armadillo slicks.

oh, and I know I'll be in for a rough ride... might upgrade to a 700c suspension fork that can locked out.

keep your mountain bike.

that bike won't like off road abuse and your friends will never stop "abusing" you...

if i were to use one bike it'd be a cyclecross bike. but i don't think i'd enjoy riding trails nearly as much as on a dedicated mtb.

don't get me wrong if you drop cash on new wheels tires etc.. you might get a decent off road ride but i bet you'd spend more than you get selling your mtb... and then you'd have to switch parts back and forth for different rides.

but this is coming from a guy who owns four mtb's and two road bikes....

the only reason I think I could get away with is... b/c my buddies are all slow. so, i could just enjoy the trails.... but, I see what you mean about the parts swapping.

Keep the Trek, It makes a good commute bike or just for quick runs to the store.

I did exactly this. I thought since I had a new road bike, i'd get rid of my MTB. Then I decided to learn more bike repair tuning it up. Now I am gonna go further and putting 3-400 into it with all new parts. I'll have a new MTB thats got way better parts on it than a new $400 bike. A back up bike is always nice to have. Don't have to take my nice hybrid on local errands either.
