11-32 to 11-34
My 2005 Jamis Dakar XLT came with a SRAM PG-950 11-32 tooth cassette. I bought a better wheelset and am looking at getting either the PG-970 or PG-990 cassette to put on it. (I'll keep my old wheelset as back-up)
My question is I would love to have a 11-34 tooth cassette on, but I want to know if it will work with my rear derailleur since it came with 11-32.
I heard somewhere that you can only run 11-34 with a long cage derailleur and I don't know how to tell what I've got.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Your derailleur should work fine, going from a 32 to a 34 isn't much of a difference. The only problem you could run into will be chain length.

Just to make sure though, take a quick look at your rear derailleur. Are the two pulleys pretty close together or is there a couple of inches between them?

It should probably work. Most medium cages, if I recall correctly, are up to 30, but I could be wrong. Be sure to get a new chain as well, because you'll need it 2 links longer than what it is (assuming it is already the right length), and it'll be less wear on the new cassette.
