ST6603 ompatibility

From the Shimano website, it appears that the triple brifter ST6603 will not work with a double crank / front deraileur. Is this true? I'm pretty sure that my 9 speed Ultegra (ST6510?) works with either.

The nine speed is double/triple. The 10 speed is not, according to my stuff.. I have not tried a triple(6603) shifter on a double crank, but I don't think it will throw the right amount to work right.

The 9-speed Ultegra and 105 were the only Shimano groups (AFAIK) that had shifters that worked with both double and triple cranks. The 8-speed components had specific double or triple shifters and, I believe Shimano has gone back to that for 10-speed.
