Shimano SH-FN20 Shoe & PD-A520 Pedals Compatible?

Can these shoes be used with these pedals? The LBS said no problem, but there is an errata sheet with the shoes that says that the shoes cannot be used with the "following pop-up types of pedals" and lists the PD-A520 as one of the incompatible pedals. The cleats that came with the shoes are the SM-SH51 black cleats that are single release mode (ankle twist) only, not the multiple release type that can be released by lifting up. I have put the pedals on the bike and clipped in and released in a stopped position to try them (they're my first set of clipless) and don't see any problems. I haven't taken them out for a ride yet (but want to tomorrow) and don't want any unpleasant surprises on the road . Any idea why they're saying don't use them together, or do they mean just with the multi-release cleats? TIA for any insights....
