Brass tacks

Let's get down to the nitty-gritty, here.

Since we're talking "Advocacy and Safety," I'd like to mention that the motorcar is the single most effective instrument of death and dismemberment in the history of mankind.

Here endeth the lesson.

No argument from me. I wish I didn't have to drive one. The four years of my adult life were the four years I lived without an automobile. That isn't possible now but it's a goal that I am working toward.

"Nitty-gritty" is officially an un-PC word. According to some sources, it refers to the detritus found at the bottom of slaving ships, which included dead slaves.

Everything is un-pc to someone so I just assume nothing is at all.

After having consulted the highest authority available, <ahem>
brass tacks is a seagoing term meaning the wood, or planking, is wearing thin, exposing brass tacks, which are reusable. The meaning implies getting down to the bare essence of the subject at hand, having stripped away extraneous information.

By the same authoritative source, "Nitty Gritty" is a "Dirt Band."

This here **** doesn't care what words are pc; he also thinks that the names Ford, Duryea, Chrysler, and Dr. Ferdinand Porsche should be considered equal to famous homicidal 20th century tyrants Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Amin for causing premature and unnecessary deaths in large numbers for no good reason.
