Campy weight limits
Recently posted on Campy Only web site:
November 1, 2002--Are you too fat for your equipment? According to information sent out recently by Campagnolo to its dealers, you should take extra care to check your equipment regularly if you weigh more than 80 Kg (about 176 pounds). Campagnolo's info emphasizes that there is no clear standard to say how heavy is too heavy (many other factors, such as the ability of the wheels and frame to absorb road shock come into play), but they recommend that riders over 80Kg be "especially viligant." Either that, or lay off the cakes and pies for a while . .
Interesting given all the buzz about campy vs Shimano etc.

Marty, are they implying that Campy is for skinnies and Shimano is the preferred selection of the fat-gutted rider?
I wonder if this Campy.v.Shimano war has not dropped to a low level.

My guess is that they are talking specifically about low
spoke count lighweight wheels and maybe cranksets
(carbon fibre). I don't think there is much of a concern
with other components. New low to the war? nah. . .

I would be surprised if this was sent out, to just protect themselves from a lawsuit. From someone who crankarms brea, seatpost breaks.. wheels break and they get hurt because of it then they sue campy. Sort of like at mcdonalds the sign that says that the coffee is hot.

Some time ago Campagnolo posted a "Technical Instruction" on their site, apparently because people were damaging the carbon seat posts by tightening the clamp in the wrong way (and contrary to printed directions). No one who sells product can protect themselves from every idiot.
Make it idiot proof, and they will just make a better idiot.
Cheers...Gary
