Future bike parts purchase. Seems like this is where we're heading. I purchased a 1" long thermal resistor for my dryer today - $4.50 and $6.95 for shipping.

If they cut the prices to stay competative the dealer has to make it up somewhere what with raising transport/fuel costs. The lbs is looking better all the time.

Shipping is my biggest headache in biz, bar none. Especially shipping to the States from elsewhere. I give a good value for shipping, I won't trust anything that doesn't provide Proof of Delivery and insurance, yet no matter how hard I try shipping costs tend to be in the range of 10% or slightly more for any given customer. Mind you the least expensive ware we have available is a t-shirt or something, but it still holds true for larger items. I've gotten used to taking a small loss on S&H just to keep people happy it's worth it but I wish there were a better way.

On the other hand, during the recent Dubai ports kerfuffle, I read a story that due to the miracle of containerized shipping you can now send a shipping container weighing 30,000 lbs between any two ports in the world for no more than $1800. It's getting stuff the last mile to your house that costs.

Shipping costs have skyrocketed with fuel prices. UPS has had three increases in the past 8 months. If the seller is shipping via UPS for $6.95 he is probably taking a small loss on shipping. $1.65 of that $6.95 is just the extra required for a residential delivery. Sorry, that's how it is.
