Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Local Shock Jock Wants To Make Cyclist a Hood Ornament

A few years ago several shock jocks for Clear Channel stations tried to drum up ratings by advocating violence against cyclists on the roadway. The ratings may have been boosted for a while, but this programming also lead to on-air apologies, suspensions, terminations, and FCC inquiries. Now a local shock jock in San Diego seems to think he can play it up as well.

I live in NY. What surprises me is with all the cyclists in CA, he gets away with this there. Astonishing.

He's questioning cyclists' sexual identity? Somebody tell that fat ******* that one of my weekend rides/races takes more testosterone than he has in his enitre slug-like physique. You MUST be joking. This reminds me of when I'm the skinny guy at the gym surrounded by pot-bellied dudes bench pressing 300lbs - and I'm by far the only reasonably 'fit' person in sight. It doesn't bother me there and morons like him bother me less when I read their nonsense on line.

Not for nothing but I firmly believe most Americans don't have a clue. I follow American sports (and I'm a fan) like baseball, football, hockey, etc. NONE of them come close to how tough pro bicycle racing in Europe is. Get serious. Lance Armstrong, that 163 lb. skinny dude? THAT's the toughest SOB in American sports history. Well, OK, maybe Jim Brown was tough too : ).

Thankfully 99.9% of motorists don't think that way and the other .1% won't have the balls to do anything about it.

Write to the station manager, write to the adverisers. Stop using the services and products of compoanies that advertise on that station. Make sure they know it. Don't listen to that Station. Don't bother to write to that idiot.

You do realize that there are web crawlers that go through online forums looking for email addresses to send spam to right? How sympathetic do you think manager will be when her inbox is filled with unsolicited email.

Yes, yes I do realize.
I hope the email server gets so inundated it shuts down. Then perhaps she or a group of people
decide to take some sort of responsible action against a ******** jack-off and scumbag of a human being.

As much as I disagree with the dumb bastard, I wouldn't get too worked up over it. He's being so childish. If something does happen to a cyclist, then it's ultimately the fault of the people involved, be it the cyclist or the motorist.

People like him wishes he had the strength/will to get on a bicycle and pedal. Maybe he hates our clothing because he's insecured about how he would look in them. Who knows. He's just a sad, dumb bastard. In any case, I don't live by his opinions.

Gee... such a sensible solution. Even during the height of the cold war, a sacred line of communications was the direct line between the White House and the Kremlin. Even hostage takers are offerred a phone so that communications can be maintained in the hopes that a civilised resolution can be reached. How about we all grow up and act a little bit like higher forms of life than the shock jocks. Appealing to the station manager is a reasonable course of action. Attempting to have her inbox flooded with uesless irellevant spam to the point of uselessness serves to draw out the problem and doesn't do anything for resolving it.

Wow, using WWII as example, brillant, just brillant. You should work in the Government . With all your sense and maturity...you'd fit right in.

Now listen up johnny -
I'll post any email I want to, if you or anybody else doesn't like
it, well tough sh*t. I'm not that mature...so I'll stick to the low brow stuff.

You, can do whatever you like, and I will do whatever I like.
Gee, I believe that's freedom of choice. There are consequences for every action.
I'm willing to accept any associated with posting the email. The station, and
the jack-ass dj also have to accept the consequences of his and the stations
actions. Sorry if that is too liberal...you reap what you sow, that includes myself.

Too many people think they can pull sh*t and get away with it. Too many people
sit on their smug hands and do nothing, except ***** about some insignificant
detail. An eye for eye, a tooth for a tooth...that's the way the world works best.
F, appeasing anyone. Throw a punch, take a punch, so bring it on.

I see that in addition to your self-proclaimed immaturity, you're also unable to distinguish between WW2 and the post-WW2 Cold War era. I also see that you fail to understand the value of a diplomatic solution.

Okay then. Let me make it clear. I am asking you not to post someone's email address without their consent. And yes, there will be consequences should you continue to do so. The station has plenty of publically advertised email contacts and those can be posted. I would also still advise obfiscation of the address in order to mitigate unwarranted harvesting. I'm not saying that you should not provide proper contact information but let's keep it relevant and take the precautions necessary to allow those who really do wish to engage in reasonable correspondance the ability to do so.

Yes, in my haste, I refered to WWII instead of the Cold War.
Sort of like confusing the NKVD and the Stasi...my bad. That aside.

Let me make this clear, I will continue to post emails that are relevant to a warranted situation.
I could care less about about unmitigated harvesting of emails and server traffic.
Like I said, an eye for an eye. Know what I am saying here? You want to throw around threats,
do so at your own peril, it's your choice. Because threats will only net you dire consequences
in the end. Consequently, no idle threats here, I can promise you that.

UmneyDurak

I think you over estimate my maturity...perhaps 8 not 10, dillhole.
You can talk all you like...whatever drivel and nonesense you have to spew.
Have at it jack-ass!

I have one of those retractible steel self-defense batons. I've been thinking I should figure out a way to mount it to my water bottle bosses on the seat tube. That way if I happen to be unfortunate enough to run into (or be run into I should say) one of these lowlifes I can whip that out, bash a door window or two, and be on my way. Not too mention, protection against the crackheads of Mantua. I know its a bad idea and all, but still...if I rode off quick enough I doubt I would be caught.
