I am trying to true a mavic cosmic carbone rear wheel. Anyone know where one can purchase the mavic truing tool for these wheels or what size the socket is?

You really need the tool that came with the wheels when new. It is between 5 and 6mm, probably 5.5mm. But it is very thin walled. A standard socket won't go through the eyelet, at least not on mine. There has been a change in eyelet design since the first generation Carbones, but I doubt that will make a difference. If you can't find the tool you may be able to grind down the outer wall on a 5.5mm socket (1/4" drive) and make it work. You'll need to hold each spoke in place while tightening the nipples. I use a small cresent wrench on the spoke. Good luck.

I used to use a hard wood dowel, slotted with a hacksaw to hold the spokes, no scratching the finish.
Now I use one of a couple of plastic pucks with different width slots in them, Mavic offers one.
Be sure not to up the tension any when truing that wheel, if you have one be sure to keep the tension with in Mavics reccomendations.
