IRD Snap-link installation w/o chain tool
-I am not satisfied with cleaning my chain on my bike, so I want to install an IRD snap-link on my Shimano 10 spd HG chain.

-I don't want to buy a chain tool to just push the two pins out that will go in the trash.
Since two pins and two outer plates are replaced by the IRD parts, can't I just:
1. cut the chain with a dremel thru the two outer plates that will be replaced
2. dremel off the flanged heads off of the pins on one side of the chain
3. snug the chain in a vise and tap the pins out
Does this sound like a good plan or do you see something I don't? I don't want to be stuck without a chain!

Why not just get a chain tool?
When you refit a new chain are you going to put your new chain in the vise & drive out the pin with a drift punch?
10.90 for a link is sort of steep.

When you replace the chain you are going to have to shorten the new one to the proper length and that will require a chain tool. The vise and drift punch or dremel and punch technique will work after a fashion but it will take care not to distort (and weaken) the chain. Use the right tool.
