Ebay brake caliper
Can anyone tell me if the caliper referenced in the link below is long reach? It's been 2 days and the Ebayer has not answered that question for me. Thanks.

that seller is an idiot. If he can't tell you that the "C" stands for Cannondale, then i'd be amazed if he could tell the difference between short and long reach.
anyway, it looks like a Cannondale Theta, or Omega brake pulled off a R_00-series road bike
which means it should be "short" reach.

Don't know about online, but see if you LBS has the Tektro RX40. They're like $30 for the pair, so you could split 'em with someone. They rule.

You can get a new pair of tektro brakes off probikekit for like $40 shipped. Long reach as well, dual pivot.

My bike shop has a crappy noname chinese dual pivot set in short and long for 28$ Cdn; I think kogswell also has black pairs that are inexpensive, but I could be wrong. Nashbar might be black too; they're not amazing, but in a year I've been more than happy with a 15$ pair of brakes that work very very well with the addition of dura ace pads.

decent 57mm-reach calipers in black for $20? you're in for a tough search.

uhh.. there is a difference between a front and rear brake caliper.
you can't install rears on the front because the installing post isn't long enough to go through the width of your fork.

I use a long reach brake for my IRO. AFAIK short reach is ~39-49mm - which seems to be the case for the majority of road calipers, and long reach is ~47-57mm. as far as inexpensive long reach brakes go, i'm currently using the single pull tektro 520A, which can be had for about $12.
i'd love to upgrade it, but i'm not about to drop $40 on a caliper
