Bikes: one of each

Started new job: already biking is better

Training for a new job, I've been going to work a couple days a week. The commute takes just 15 minutes by bike, a couple minutes more by car. As well, if you leave work for lunch by car, you won't have a parking spot, period. So already, biking to work when possible is a much better option.

But the last week has seen a bunch of problems for my car driving co-workers. Last week, one person had the rear truck shell broken into and had a whole mess of company electronic equipment stolen along with some personal items including irreplaceable digital photographs! Then today, a different person parked their truck across the street from the building. I could see his truck if I stood up and walked three steps towards the window, and so could the owner. Unfortunately, someone broke a window on the truck...which had no valuables of any kind in it, and nothing was taken.

Now everyone at work is grimacing and hand-wringing about the safety of their cars, talking about how they want to leave their cars at home and find another way. Two people even wanted to go outside to check on their cars after the break-in was discovered today.

The only downside of bike commuting so far is people making fun of my sweet new Chrome manpris, but they're just haters and they know my muscular legs look good rock on fellow commuters!

Awesome! I admit I'd feel pretty smug too, watching everyone fret over their precious cars. Now go make sure your bike doesn't suffer a similar fate to those cars!

We have similar problems where I work. There is a free gravel/dirt lot where we can park that is a couple of blocks from the building. There are break-ins every once in a while, but the craziest incident was a few weeks ago. Apparently, some of the unfortunate early birds who get to work before 7:30 am found their car windows broken out in some instances and the sides of their cars slightly dented and paint damaged. It turns out that the mowers were there that morning to mow what little grass actually grows in the lot. They apparently were unaware that their mowers were flinging rocks and gravel at high speeds toward the few cars that were in the lot.
