there are different sorts of weight. weight at the wheels is more important than weight at the rest of the frame. if you weigh your frame and components, you should also weigh yourself and the clothes your ride in. of course big people tend to have bigger quads and can mash harder up hills and such. weight at the rims (tires, tubes, tuffys etc) makes you slower because you have to spin it with poor leverage (from the cog).

For now, mine tips the scales in the high 24 lb. range. No cool toys on it though.
1996 Trek 7000 ZX
Rock Shox Quadra 21R
Tektro V Electra kit
Odyssey Bear Traps
Stock Shimano STX-RC crankset
I'm starting to look for Ti and other lightweight parts, though...hoping to get it down to the 22/23 lb. mark. The major issue is finding parts that fit. Currently I'm looking on eBay for vintage parts but there's not a ton of stuff out there for now.

My Pista has no original parts other than the frame and weighs 18lbs.
My son's coaches told him a pound on the bike equals seven pounds on the body.

Weight is such a relative thing - and coaches making over generalized statements like that is dangerous. Take it with a grain of salt. Its much less about weight alone - what matters is power to weight ratio. seven extra pounds "on the body" is fine if that seven pounds is muscle mass that procuces 5% more torque/wattage. And that one pound on the bike isn't going to make that much of a difference for any of us here unless it is in the wheels or some other rotating part. Rotational weight is vital, and light parts/frame definitely help. But one can't generalize so much about weight, it all depends where it is on both the body and bike and the benefits/gains of having that weight (eg. power, stiffness, etc)

~17 lbs for the 52cm Erba, I think. Haven't actually weighed it, but it seems to be about the same as my old build.

18ish. Which feels like air compared to my 23lb road bike. It doesn't seem like it to me, but cutting about 20% of the weight makes a huge difference.

BICYCLING had an article recently about Dr. Michele Ferrari.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michele_Ferrari
https://www.53x12.com/do/show;jsessio...B74?page=front
Many people associate Dr. Ferrari with anaerobic threshold; and, however, if I recall correctly, Dr. Ferrari makes very successful predictions of preformance, based on body weight.
As a general statement, in this gravity field and this atmosphere, lighter bicyclists perform better than heavier bicyclists.
Exceptions?
Of course.
And, of course, a bottom limit exists.
Some years ago several expensive racing greyhounds died during shipment due to the decompression of the cargo compartment of the airliner in which their owners had transported them.
For awhile after that, greyhound owners paid a special premium to transport their greyhounds in the passenger cabin.
I met a greyhound handler at Portland International airport (PDX) as he led his two dogs away from the gate.
The size of his dogs surprised me.
They seemed much larger than I expected.
He told me that as greyhounds at the peak of their training they weighed 84 pounds each.
"Eighty-four pounds?" I asked.
That seemed too specific and I wondered out loud how he could know they each weighed 84 pounds.
He said, "Winning greyhounds weigh 84 pounds."
My son has always liked running distances but, although he has always run varsity and lettered, he has also always run in the middle of the pack.
He excells, however, at 800 meters and the various hurdle races because of his unusual muscularity and strength (he has the natural physique of a pitbull).
Given the above, I wonder if bicyclists of specific sizes, weights and degree of muscularity do well at specific types of distances and races.
Here in Bend, we have an unusual number of world class professional and amateur bicyclists.
The male bicyclists who blast past me effortlessly seem larger than I would have expected.
I wonder about people who climb well.
Anyway, I fail to see the danger to which ChicagoDave alludes.
My son's coaches could just as well have said that one pound of dead weight equals seven pounds of live weight; which corresponds to one pound on the bike equals seven pounds on the body.
Well, maybe not totally different.
Different, yes.
I can carry twenty pounds of fat easier than I can carry twenty pounds of lead, or pedal twenty additional pounds of bicycle.

I'll play
Conversion bike = 24 pounds with pump, patch kit, spare tube, 3 tire levers.
Dresed up rider with 32 ounce camelback, 3 enches, victorinox, multi hex, and first aid kit = 208 pounds (@ 6f 1 inch)
I'd rather loose 15 pounds of my own girth before I loose them on the bike.

I'd like to say my lightest bike weighs something around 16lbs.
Co-Motion Track Frame 853 Reynolds Steel.
Dura-ace Crankset, Dura-ace steatpost, Dura-ace Headset Nitto Jaguar Stem, Steel Risers Cut down.
Front wheel is a dura-ace 7600 hub laced to a Mavic GL330 rim, rear is a suntour superbe pro hub laced to a Mistral rim. Bladed spokes and Conti Sprinters on both.
I was about to sell it, when I realized how friggin light it was compared to my lugged steel frames.
*edit*
Correction. The co-motion weighs 17.2 lbs and my heaviest bike the lugged serotta with deep v's laced 36 3x weighs a whopping 20.4 lbs!

14 lbs by a bathroom scale. (only thing I have around) Kind of surprising with the heavy Raceface cranks, but I guess the Ti frame makes up for it.
55cm Titanium track frame
Carbon fork/ Alu steerer
King Headset
Bonty Select front wheel
Surly hub/ Salsa Delgado X rim
Raceface Turbines
Ti post
Titec Big Al stem
Jones bar
eggbeaters and front/rear blinkies
Now if only I could lock it up without being paranoid.
