Hookworm as commuter tyres ?

I have a set of hookworms, and I sling them on every 6 moths or so before remembering why I hate them in the first place. Maxxis missed a real opportunity to make the definitive high volume slick by releasing these tyres in a dual ply downhill casing rather than a single ply.
Depending on whether you have the 1.4kg or 1.1kg version, you will be saving around a KG, or 2.5 pounds by running any other 2"+ slick out there.
You will also need to carry a set of downhill tyre levers. I have to use the Park steel levers to break or mount the bead on these tyres. They are the most difficult tyre I have ever had to mount and if you run sun rims you will likely damage said rims mounting hookworms without bead wax. I have snapped both types of park levers, pedros, tacx and michelin levers when mounting them.
I have no idea why these tyres need to be so heavy. They are meant to be giant BMX tyres, and can take a beating, but most bmx tyres achieve the same by running higher pressures.
Yes they roll very very nicely. Yes they look cool. But they accelerate and climb like the road is covered in an inch of molasses. The knurled surface of the tyre also picks up water off the road like no other tyre I have ridden, and hurls it straight at your behind. The kids who ride the stairs and walls in the park and college near my home DID NOT WANT THESE TYRES FOR FREE.
If you want fat tyres, then you should buy Dmr Motos or Kenda K-rads. If you want a faster rolling tyre and can live with a slightly lower volume then go for specialized hemispheres (I run Motos on my urban bike and Hemispheres on my trail riding singlespeed when I have it in urban mode).
In short, don't waste your money.
