Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

What's the point? Go get BMX bikes if you're just going to hang out at the mall and do tricks. They're cheaper, they won't break as easily, and you can do cooler tricks on them.

While i'm impressed by the skills these guys have, i can picture dozens of BMX kids laughing at the idea of bunnyhopping over a water bottle.

learn as much as you can on a track bike. some of these tricks are lame, some are sick. I don't mind seeing the goof-off footage as long as they are backing it by the 50mph traffic stuff.

I ride BMX, so I'll give you my perspective: It's goofy, but hard to do this type of stuff on a track bike. Actually, I suppose it's not really hard in the way that some BMX tricks are (trying them literally hundreds or thousands of times over the course of a few months), but a bit tricky at first. You also have to worry about your rims. It's all fun though.

No offense guys, this isn't breaking news.

Not only can any bmxer do this on a 20incher. But, any BMXer worth anything can get on any one of our track bikes and do this.

I used to ride BMX and Fixie in SF back in like 2000 at the Clocktower (embarcadero and market). I would ride my fixie down there and my BMX buddies would bust out crazy sh1t on my fixie. With no experience on fixie, they could skid, track stand, ride backwards 360, ride backwards straight. I wouldn't let them do jumping tricks.

As far as bike control skills go, it's like this:
1) BMX flatlanders
2) Trials
3) BMX Park/Street

Uhhhhh....

You do realize BMX riders have been doing this type of stuff for the past thirty years, don't you?

I mean, I was doing that stuff on my 20 inch BMX bike back in the 1980's.

Still, not bad for a track bike.

Because some of us have been doing stuff like this on bikes for the past twenty years, and we're not impressed.

We were all young and stupid at one time.

Edit--- In fact, if he had any real skillz, he'd be doing a bunnyhop 360, like I learned to do back in 1987.

Hahahaha! Washed up BMX dudes is right. I'm certainly one of them.

That being said, we all used to dork around doing stupid stuff, like playing H.O.R.S.E. (the Endo Can-Can used to get 'em every time!). But, we never video taped it and put it on the web.

Props to the dudes hanging out and dorkin out on their bikes...and having fun.

if you were alive in the '80's you might know what he's talking about. go rent "rad" for a refresher course. then you can apologize to all of us washed up bmx dudes.
