question about my brakes

is there some kind of break in period for new pads. because i just got new pads on and they arent grabbing very well. so i was wondering if there is some kind of coating or something that needs to get worn off?

I wonder the same thing. My friend just picked up a bike with Avid BB-7's and they are very weak. They've been looked at by a LBS and they just said it'll need to be broken in. I'm sure they'll be fine soon enough but he wants to take it out this Sunday but in their current state, they're not gonna cut it.

Go to a long steep hill, and descend with the brakes on.

Like Aaliyah would say... if at first you dont succeed, then dust yourself off and try again

I got some bb7s for my bike a long time ago and at first i was a little disapointed, but after a while (about 2 hours) of light riding around my neighborhood i could tell there was a difference in power. After they were fully broke in they were almost as powerfull as my hayes hfx 9's (which are set up very well i might add). the only thing i dont like about those brakes in particular is that they make more noise than any other disc brake i've ever used.
