Intrawest owns a bunch of MTB friendly mountains, and they were bought out by a private holding company.

Summer MTB = Revenue

If they were bought out by strip-miners then there would be a problem. But operating the lifts in summer and renting downhill bikes makes money for an otherwise unused mountain. Nothing will change.

Oh,
Yeah, I see your point. Chances are they're not buying the land to leave it alone. Then again, maybe they won't notice the bikes running up and down their mountain trails.

I agree for the most part. However most mountains break close to even. There isnt as much money in summer operations as people think. Pass is cheaper, mountain bikers are generally broke. All of whistler's high end hotels loose lots of money during the summer compared to the cheaper hotels. Its a semi-win battle for the resort.

That said, it helps leave the name in public thought. Whistler is busy year round which helps keep it busy year round.

It will be interesting. Intrawest was really pushing the mountain biking through to other mountains. It will be curious to see if that continues or if they begin to pull back from the ones who have been barely making ends meet.
