sep 24th - grand tour lite
anyone doing this? several ride options: metric, century and double metric.... info HERE
it's a cheap ride at $25.00.... if you want to make it cheaper.... we can get together and send in as a group of 5 or more and save $5.00!
the sag stops last year were excellent! i just wish it wasn't on a sunday.... but i make an exception fo this one! lol! i hope it's not foggy/no marine layer for latigo canyon this year!!!!!

Sunday, September 24, 7:30 a.m. GRAND TOUR LITE.(Metric double century 125 miles, century 100 miles, metric century 68 miles)
Did you miss the Grand Tour? Or did you ride it and now want to relive some of those moments? Well, here’s a chance to capture some of the Grand Tour flavor in a reduced mileage format.
The Highland Double Metric Century 125-mile route is the same Century Challenge / Double Metric Century route offered in the Grand Tour. It climbs Latigo Cyn., then descends Potrero. A loop to Moorpark (lunch) and Port Hueneme (more food) before returning down the coast completes the day.
The Lowland Century 100-mile route simply travels up the coast to Ventura, making food stops in Port Hueneme going and coming, and returns on Pacific Coast Highway.
The Metric Century 68-mile route stays on the coast on P.C.H., going as far as Port Hueneme for lunch before returning.
All routes start at 7:30 a.m. and are supported with rest stops, sag support and a full lunch.
START: MALIBU CIVIC CENTER. Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu, turn inland on Webb Way (just south of Pepperdine hill), R - Civic Center Drive. Park on street (lot is used for farmer's market) and look for bicycles and check-in/registration table. Please arrive early so as to be prepared to start at 7:30 a.m. IF you are registering on the day of the ride, please come at least 30 minutes early (and call or e-mail in advance so that we know how many to expect for lunch!).
FEES: $25 per rider
DISCOUNTS: $5 for Los Angeles Wheelmen members;
$5 per rider for groups of 5 registering together (To qualify for discount, mail all 5 registrations together or, if registering on line, select group discount option and e-mail m.j.grove@att.net with list of riders to validate group.

I plan on doing the double metric, some other people from Santa Clarita may join me. As soon as I know who is going, I would be up for registering together for the discount.
The double metric is the same as the one on the Grand Tour, it was a great ride. I really enjoyed the climb up Latigo. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the headwind back across the coastal plain to Port Hueneme. Since I was the biggest person, I was the one out front while everyone else sucked my wheel.

What routes are you all planning on doing? I'm torn between century and double metric, and I'd probably go with whichever one has some BikeForums SoCal riders willing to ride it as a group.

Is anyone familiar with the routes for the century and metric? I haven't been successful in using Yahoo maps with the areas mentioned on their site.

I would say both of these routes are flat. A few rollers on PCH but nothing too steep or long.

caligurl, would you mind an inexperienced double metric rider tagging along? I figure it wouldn't hurt to be riding with someone who knows what he/she is doing on longer rides and who knows the course.

I'll be riding the double metric, I think they call it the "Century Challenge".
Nice ride, cook your legs right off the bat on Latigo and use what's left of them
to cover the last 115 miles. Nice leisurely Sunday. Ha!
Any plan for identifying marks for BF riders. Can't do red stars on number plates since LAW
doesn't issue them for their rides.

last year i did this ride with my brakes rubbing! i didn't realize it til almost to port jueneme (spelling) gosh i was MAD! lol!
