Warren, Michigan area

I'm a newbie in the Warren,Michigan area .
Looking for fun places to learn with my new 2007 Trek 8000 ZR mountain bike.
I'm a bit out of shape and need to get some workouts in.
I also have 2 kayaks, a 12 ft Dagger, and a 18 ft Epic Endurance.
Cross Training on the weekends is a definite possibility.

Hi, all! I've posted a bit on this forum, and quite a bit in Classic & Vintage and Fifty PLussers. I live in Ann Arbor, MI, this winter mainly riding the TV set and fluid trainer. My wife adn I returned to cycling around three years ago, and I'm sorta irregular but a lot better than when we started. She kicks butt.

I'm a native of Chicago, with loads of in-city and suburban commuting and recreational experience there.

I ride a '80 Masi, a '80 Woodrup (my main mount), a '85 Mondonico (nice bike seeking new home), and a '84 Trek 610 (may also be ready to leave the nest). Mrs. Road Fan rides a Breezer Liberty Range Bike.

I'm lookoing for Ann Arborites or near-Ann Arbor people to ride with, on weekday evenings and weekends. I'm not fast and I need a lot of base training. I might be able to make the BFNIC spring ride.

I'd love too, but I'll be fishing with my dad down in TN. I'll keep an eye on the forums though for the next one.

If it's still planned for April 21 I might be able to make that. Got a business trip to Lexington Monday, but it should work.

Anybody here ever gone to the Chicago Bike Show? What's it like? Any good deals? I'm not looking for a new bike, butcan always find a "need" for jerseys, gear, etc.

I've been. I think I've actually gone twice, but can't remember for sure. There is some decent gear there. It's worth going to if you have never been. If you don't like it you can always cruise outside and enjoy Navy Pier.

I went last year and was quite disappointed. I went expecting to look at lots of bikes but saw very few. Lots of clubs there, very few bike reps and very little retail except one corner that gets picked thru very quickly. I myself dont plan on going back.

It was a quick trip...kinda dissappointing. I did however buy a B&W finish to the 76 TDF print and got it framed. Its still hanging in my living room.

IMHO, the CBS is hardly worth the $$ or effort. Our club is planning a ride to Navy Pier that weekend; however, we've mostly decided to check-out the smoked almonds and other nuts, then ride back to Elmhurst.

I've been going since it was at Pheasant Run in the early 90s, and to me, it isn't worth the effort to get into the city. It was a decent show in 'burbs, but why they chose to move it into Navy Pier, I'll never know. I'm sure there are a lot of cyclists in the city, but it's easier for a city liver to get to the suburbs than the flip trip.

Last time I went, it was a complete waste of time. I won't go back again, especially if it's in the city.
