Completed 1st ride today!, Hello all.
Bought a nice Hybrid bike from a bikeforum regular of craglist, thx Nissley , today was my first day out..I think I over did it, and I am going to be sore as hell tomorrow but I had fun!(rode 20 miles!)
I have not rode a bike since like 15.., I don’t go to the gym much..but I am a Programmer by day so the pounds are going to pack on(I am turning 31 in October) I thought I pick up an “active hobby quick!”
Have two very important newbie questions:
What’s with the spandex? Why can’t I juts wear shorts, etc.?
What can I do so my a** won’t hurt so much after a ride?? Its sore sore..
I am trying to get my friends hooked on cycling so we can take rides in the moutiains like some of the folks do all the time here on this forum
Ciao.

Welcome to BikeForums.
Shorts? You can wear them but you won't be comfortable after a few miles. If you MUST wear shorts try wearing padded cycling underwear instead of regular underwear.
If you think you don't look good in lycra, wear mountain bike shorts.
I only wear bibs and recommend them to everyone I know.
If your saddle has too much padding your butt will always be sore. Get a saddle with only a little bit of padding and your butt will get used to it after a few weeks, possibly less.
