Hello Cyclers !
I am a newbie on this forum. I retired several years ago and live in Napa Valley, CA. Enjoy riding my Trek road bike on the many backroads around here in Napa Valley and the Bay Area with my friend Mike. I checked my resting heart rate the other day and it was 51, thought I was a hot number for my age group (I'm 61) till I recently read about President Bush, he rides regularly also and his resting rate is 47 !

I wouldn't get so hung up on numbers. I have taught aerobics for eighteen years. Everything from high impact, low impact, and step to spinning. I generally ride my bike at least five times per week for a minimum of an hour. Despite that, my resting heart rate is about 60. Of course I probably ingest enough caffiene to power a small submarine......

Heart Rate
Ah, you would be a good one to ask. Is a higher then the norm resting pulse the morning after a long hard ride indicate that you haven't fully recovered and should not ride at all today or better to do some easy riding, say 65% of max. From what I have read an easy ride can actually accelerate your recovery. Is this true ?
