I like to think in terms of geography rather than political boundaries. In the US I've ridden in deserts, above tree-line at 12,000', below sea level, in the Great Plains, Rockies, Sierra Nevada, Appalachians, coastal forests in the North West and North East. I've ridden in the desert in Baja Mexico, central and souther Europe, Alps, Dolomites, Mediterranean islands,... I've ridden in the country side, small towns, large towns, cities: NY, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Santa Fe... Still many new places to ride.

I rode my first bicycle in Pennsylvania at age 6. Had a five speed Schwinn at 14 years old. Then at age 33 went to Colorado and got into biking after the 1888 Boulder pro race and rode only about 2,000 miles over the years I would have ridden more but it took three different bikes to get one geared low enough for me (Trek1420 i still have). I didn't ride in Alabama for ten years. Now in Texas. In two years i have ridden more than the entire rest of my life.
@Machka May I suggest Texas Hill Country. Lots of events around San Antonio and Austin .

I've got a goal of riding in all the provinces in Canada, all the states in the US, all the states in Australia, and as many other countries as possible. It's not a goal that I'm going to accomplish in the next year or two ... it is something I'm working on throughout my life.
However, this year, I was able to add a whole bunch more US states to my list ... I'm nearly at the half-way mark!!
What about you?? Where have you ridden?? Any plans for some winter rides??
Me:
-- Canada: BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario
-- Australia: NSW, Queensland, Victoria, ACT, Tasmania
-- US: Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine, New York, New Hamshire, Vermont
-- UK: England, Wales
-- France

This year, so far, I've added Taiwan, Japan, and Scotland to the list.
How's your cycling and travelling going?

Adding Australia and Antarctica, I'll have all the continents by most people's accounts. Antarctica might be tough though.

A friend of mine took a bike with him on a huge cargo ship. Maybe 600 ft long. He rode his bike around a couple of empty decks while at sea. In rough weather the deck would move a little, while he was riding. I think that would make me sick.

And The Netherlands ... and we're back into Germany. Last time I might have ridden a couple km in Germany, this time we've done a lot more.

How was cycling in Hong Kong? We were there, and debated about cycling, but opted not to.

Pretty much from Bangor to San Diego and from Seattle to Miami. My wife and I use to travel in a 26' 1965 Dodge motorhome with a custom Santana tandem and two custom mountain bikes I built and my FG. We stayed in all of the lower-48 states and sought up local eateries and cultural sites, and found the best road/off-road cycling as recommended by locals in each location. We also made a 4 month, 8000 mile "wavy loop" to visit every National and many State parks along the route. We live in an amazingly beautiful country if you have the time, and take the time, to get out and enjoy it.

I agree ... both the countries I've lived in (Canada and Australia) are amazingly beautiful countries ... each in different ways. I encourage everyone to take the time to enjoy their beauty.

Never again in Kowloon, horrific to say the least. We were almost sideswiped quite a few number of times and the normal practice I believe is for those tiny little cars to actually ride abreast a few centimeters with cyclists. This was when Hong Kong was still a colony, so it may have changed a bit.
