Organizing Cross-Country Charity Ride, Need advice

I'm getting started on planning a ride from San Francisco to Boston this coming summer to raise money for a new college fund to benefit children of soldiers KIA in Iraq and Afganistan. I could really use advice from veterans in organizing charity rides when it comes to publicizing and attracting sponsors. As of now it is just two of us that plan to do the ride itself though I have a lot of people willing to help with fundraising. Also if you'd like info about joining the ride, all are welcome; we're aiming to do 80mi/day with one rest day a week... so somewhere around 8 weeks. Thanks for any feedback,

Colin

Best way I have found is to get on the radio and use them to publicise the ride. Not as an advert but on one your local radio stations- there is often a local Radio presenter that is fit and throw out a challenge to him to take part in the first days ride. They are busy people and won't be able to do the whole ride but get the radio station on your side and a participating presenter will work wonders. If you try this for the whole of the route, you won't get every radio station to take up the challenge, but some will.
