Road Newbie - Concord, CA

Hello all! I'm 41 and have been mountain biking since I moved to California 8 years ago... while driving around the Bay Area looking for a house, I saw a guy hauling a** down a fire road on a mountain bike and I knew immediately I had to try that. Three months later I bought my first mountain bike... a GT Avalanche hardtail. Now I'm riding a 2003 Specialized Epic Disc and my joints love me for it... the full suspension that is. Now if I could just find some better legs and lungs...

I got a Schwinn Varsity for my 11th birthday in 1976 and rode that bike until I graduated from college in 1989 (yes, I was on the extended plan). In addition to riding for fun, it served as transportation to the grocery store for Mom, to the local pond to play ice hockey in the winter (yes, through the snow in Ohio), and then to and from my summer job just before my last year at Ohio State.

Anyway, I just bought a 2001 Torelli Stiletto frame and I need to build and ride this bike so I can stay in shape through the muddy season. I'm a mountain biker at heart but love to ride the pavement too. I rode the Silverado Trail from Yountville to Calistoga last summer and I was hooked. Now I finally am taking that step into road biking. I'll be posting plenty of questions so chime in if you can help!

Just Ride... (my screensaver scrolls these words so I don't lose focus on what's really important in life!)

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Welcome, Ted. I know you're a northerner, but come check out So Cal region. We've got several northerners converted... There are tons of roadies there as mountain bikers, and they love questions - and are very helpful with there answers! Cheers
