What is the Official "Fifty Plus (50+)" Beer?

Back in the days of the British Empire, when the Raj governed India, the Brits had to supply their troops with beer. In order for the fine British ale to be able to survive the long ocean voyage, they had to fortify it with extra hops; hence, India Pale Ale. Because this obviously had to be the stuff drunk by the Bombay Bicycle Club back in those days, and because you have to be a real beer drinker to enjoy the extra bitterness of this brew, and because it just has more character (and taste) than normal "bland" beers, and because most cyclists 50+ have more character and taste than any younger riders, I vote for IPA as the "official beer of theFifty Plus (50+) geezers."

Oh, and I want to vote for Islay single malts as the "Official Scotch of the Fifty Plus (50+)" for roughly the same reason - very smoky, peaty flavor that takes a while to acquire. I'll have a snifter of Laphroaig or Caol Ila please...

Once upon a time there was the Coors Classic, however Coors is a very poor excuse for a beer. Even with that type of bicycle connection I'd vote against it.
Sierra Nevada has sponsored bike racing teams and brew some outstanding beers. They would get my vote.

Well, if its going to be official, then we'll need to take a list of names then hold a poll...
Fat Tire seems obvious.
India Pale Ale ( IPA) seems reasonable (is this a play on words? like there is a banned performance-enhancing substance that has the same letters?)
how about including the Duesseldorfer favorite brews known as 'Altbier'? appropriately-labeled for 50+'ers!

Someone mentioned a brewery just down the road from me in another beer thread ... New Glarus Brewery, out of New Glarus, Wis. They just won the best Mid-Sized Brewery in the USA gold medal for the second consecutive year at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. Three years ago they were smaller and won the Best Small Brewery in the USA gold.
They only distribute in Wisconsin, so you have to be here to buy it. The Sugar River Trail ends (or starts depending upon how you see it) in New Glarus. So you can start in Brodhead, Wis, ride 23 miles to New Glarus, down some New Glarus beer with a brat and then ride back.

Both Widmer Bros and Leinenkugels have bike jerseys so i think they at least should get a vote. I love Widmers Hefeweizen, it's an unfiltered wheat beer. Leinies also has a wheat beer.

Well. It's not Corona and blueberry pie and thats for sure. Sheesh, I'd be voting for Stolichnya and scones before that one!
IPA may carry the day, and always being one to vote with a trend, count me in as an IPA supporter. Unless there is a later front runner, and then I'll probably switch. Maybe.

I used to drink and enjoy Fat Tire Ale. Then Sierra Nevada started sponsoring a bicycle racing team so I figured that I'd be loyal to those who were putting in an effort for my sport.
Then I discovered that Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a REALLY good beer.
Last night I ordered a Sierra Nevada on draft. When it got there it was the wrong color but I figured, what the hell, and gave it a gulp and it was Fat Tire Ale instead. I've got to tell you, I've developed a taste for Sierra Nevada and that will probably be Tom's Official Beer at least until they stop sponsoring bicycle races one way or another. Of course all they'll HAVE to do is put a bicycle on the label.
