It's at the end of August. I did the 100k for the first time this year, and will be returning next year for sure. It's an amazing ride with an amazing number of riders (11k+ this year). If you're interested in it, the best suggestions I can give you is start training in the heat starting in early June. The heat and the winds are usually the biggest factors in this ride.

Thanks for your responce. Yes sir the heat and humidity are killer! As for the wind it seems to be only weather constant up here in the panhandle. Head wind leaving town, head wind back.

HHH is an absolute blast. This year was my 4th and I plan to go back yearly.
I do caution you that my LBS calls it "dumber than hell one hundred" for obvious reasons,
it's amazing how many people show up either untrained, unprepared (no spares, no pumps), or
just unaware how to ride with lots of people around.
Given this years horror stories, you'd be best advised to start aclimating yourself
to riding in the heat now

Thanks for the insight. I have never rode around or even with other people. That is my down fall. Currently tring to find local or even semi-local(say 100-150 miles). My time is the killer. No worries though, I'm still looking and riding. Hell, for all I know,I'm doing it wrong any way. Practice makes perfect?

do a few local rides with a group (and not the racerboy wannabe rides),
learn to hold a line and don't do anything unexpected and you'll do fine.
Its not like I'm talking about riding a pro peloton at 45kph.

Thanks for that. Ijust started riding in May, got the bug bad. Do about 125-150 miles per week. Maintaine about 26mpr average. For my age and experience,it's OK. Don't really like the whole "Race" concept,but,understand. Just love to ride. Have family in south Texas,Will ride down this summer to visit

You've got the bug bad! That's a lot of miles per week! This year's HH100 was my first and my first century. Got to meet and stayed at the same house as Cuda and Lecterman. Next year Cuda's doing the 100 on his bad-ass Flyte!). It was a lot of fun. I think I'm the un-official HH100 BF coordinator, so I'll add you to the list (you're #32) as the planning starts around April. Hoping to put together some sort of Friday night gathering. In what part of the great republic do you reside (in other words, "Where you at?")?

I rode it years ago when Lance Armstrong was a junior class racer. It was one of the most assume rides to do. everyone should do it at least once.

If you want to stay in a hotel you should make reservations now. It might already be too late, there aren't a lot of hotels in town. Another option is to stay in someone's house. The people of Wichita Falls are very good about inviting riders to stay in their houses. More info on the HHH website.

Sorry for the long delay in respond time, been away for awhile with the family. Coming to you from the north east corner of the panhandle-Perryton. Thanks for#32. Winter is going to interesting to say the least. More indoor miles mean same old senic ride in the livingroom. Guess I'm going to have paint about once a month to change it up.

I think I might come to TX for this. Was talking w/ a guy who rode it and it said it's pretty much one long paceline. Any truth to this? I can't imagine what 11k riders on the road would be like. I'm used to being the only person in site half the time on big organized rides.

It is an absolute blast, lots of fun on the ride but the start is a beotch.
Does my heart good to see cyclists stretching off towards the horizon.
After the first few turn offs for the shorter rides it thins out quite a bit.

Yeah, through the first couple of rest stops its one long never ending, as far as they eye can see line of bikes in both directions. The start is a mess, I walked the bike for about a quarter/half mile before it picked up enough speed to actually ride. After that though, it was an amazing ride. I will be back next year for sure.

A couple of buds and I have done the HHH a couple times now. It is an incredible ride - fast, flat, and lots of people for the first 30 miles or so. A lot of good advice here, practice being constant and not doing any jerky movements. The crashes that I have seen were because some one was not paying attention and did some thing unexpected. There are too many cyclists the first 30 miles just full of adrenaline. The heat and wind are what gets you, especially in the last 20 miles or so. Other than that, it is the best ride I have done in the last three years of riding.

I have done it a few times....it was my first Century, I did it on my MTB. After that I acquired a road bike, much easier. It is a great century to do regardless of the heat...very flat....

I believe the key to having a great ride is not to spend a lot of time out in the day....go as fast as you can safety...but get in as fast as you can. Being out on the course in the heat of the day is what will get you....

The races and the bike expo the day before are a must see as well....highly recommended...

okay folks...now were up to 37 bf'ers that are planning on doing the HH100. Just for grins I checked the site the other day and see that the date has been set...August 25th. The website also says that 4 new hotels will be open by then. I did a quick search on Orbitz for that date and still found availability, although I think the prices are jacked for the weekend ($86/night for the 'one star' Motel 6).

anyone one of you guys/gals that have ridden in the HHH know when you can start registering for the event??.....I'd like to try to get at least a 3 digit number....I saw the dates on the site posted, but no registration info.

Put me on the mailing list! I did it for the first time and did't make the cutoff time for the full 100 mile ride. We made the mistake of starting waaaayyy too far in the pack and didn't get to the start line for almost an hour after the official start. But I am planning on going back for 2007 to try the 100mile again.
