Swapping Quill Stems & Brake Lever Removal

Swapping Quill Stems & Brake Lever Removal
I should be receiving a Technomic stem this weekend to replace the steeper quill and am really eager to start riding again. My current setup is Campy Veloce 10 speed levers. Is it possible to simply remove the levers from the handlebars and swap stems? Or will I have to uninstall the cables from the levers and then reinstall?

Assuming you have enough slack in the cables, you should be able to just slide them off your old handlebars after you unwrap any tape on the bars. I've done this with Shimano 105 levers without a problem. The only thing I had to do was undo the little tightening nut on the front brake hanger so I had more slack in my front brake cable.

Actually, you should only have to remove one lever and unwrap half of the bars.

Given the quill length on the Technomic you may need new cables and housing. Generally speaking it is possible to swap bars and/or stem without disconnecting cables.

Pull the lever and look inside the gap. You should see either a slot head bolt or, more likely, an allen head bolt behind the cable anchor. You loosen that bolt and the lever should slide off. You may have to remove the cable to get to the bolt but that's not always necessary.
