I remember making out with my girlfriend, she had braces too, and getting locked together.

I thought locking braces was an urban myth?
I had some retainer called a bio-block. It straightened my teeth over about 3 years, but my teeth continued to get crowded later on. Molars removed and my front teeth still cross

I had braces not once, but twice. You'll get used to them in a couple weeks. Enjoy learning all the foods that like to get stuck all around them.

Max, I had braces too when I was 13 (well, I had them put on when I was 11 and off when I was almost 14). They were a true gift given by two parents who worked hard to afford the bill. I had to have a palate separator for which my dad turned a key every night. This slowly stretched the bones in my mouth to widen it (I have the world's tiniest mouth even still!). It hurt horribly and I hated it. It broke my dad's heart to see me cry every time he approached me with the key. But when it was all said and done, I hugged and thanked him and my mother profusely - I would have had severe buck teeth otherwise! Good luck with those and know that it is worth it. Be sure to brush...blah, blah. You know the drill. Oh, and WEAR YOUR RETAINER for the rest of your life (trust me on this, please).

Hopefully that improved part won't also make for more difficulty coming off.
Braces time 1 = straighten teeth and all kinds of other fun
Braces time 2 = jaw surgery which let me tell you was a LOT of fun
merider1: I had one of those same spreaders. That would be part of that fun mentioned above. Also had the head gear that attached to the upper jaw braces that was supposed to pull my upper jaw forward. Didn't work. Thus the second time around.

According to my general dentist, when a youth gets braces, the thinking was that the cuspids and molars should be removed to allow room for the teeth to be realigned. Now, with TMJ problems propping up in a person's later years, the new thought is that the removal of the teeth actually is a factor in TMJ.
