2007 Cycling Goals
What are your 2007 cycling goals?
I'm still debating about mine ... but maybe you have some things in mind already!
EDIT: OK, my motivation is returning and here are some goals ...
1) Super Randonneur series (200K, 300K, 400K, and 600K)
2) This year, I need to design local 400K and 600K routes to add to the Alberta Randonneur calendar. That should be interesting. There are some very specific rules to follow for route designing, and then there are many things which appear on most randonneurs' wish lists.
3) Paris-Brest-Paris ... https://www.audax-club-parisien.com/
4) 10,000 kms or more
5) Centuries ... this one I'm still debating about. I may decide to do a third year of centuries each month, or I may decide to aim for a certain number of centuries for the year, or both. I'm also tempted by the idea of doing a non-stop century or perhaps a trainer century.
6) Touring ... I'd like to do a bit more touring in 2007 than I did in 2006. There's a local 3 day tour in the mountains in May which is one possibility. And if possible it would be great to do some touring in France and maybe other parts of Europe.
7) More roads ... I've covered most, but not quite all, of the paved roads within about a 50 mile radius of where I live. I'd like to ride the rest of them, and then perhaps start exploring futher out.
8) 24-hour race ... I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to afford the time and expense of getting to a 24-hour race this year, but I'd like to try. I wish there was a local one!!
9) Something different ... the UMCA has all sorts of challenges, one of which is a cross state or province challenge: https://www.ultracycling.com/ , then the Perimeter organization has around-the-state/city/island/whatever challenges https://www.pbaa.com/Home.html
10) And if I'm not working when they hold their rides this coming summer, I may try to do some riding with the local club ... I need motivation to add intensity to my rides.

The Mt. Washington hillclimb is nuts....not only do you have to deal with the steep road, you have to deal with the weather too
I don't think I'd be looking forward to a windy day up there....a 40+ mph headwind on a 12+% grade would be really, really, really aggrivating.

ride my bike(s)... and some other things... like get out of debt, drink lots of beer, eat some popcorn, play some guitar, maybe a little piano, learn italian, ride my bike(s) some more, pick my nose, watch a movie or two, eat some more popcorn (after washing my hands of course), hmmmm. what else, what else... post some stuff on some internet cycling forums, uhhh.... drink some water, breathe oxygen (routinely of course), hmmm... I think that's it

At 140 lbs I probably won't be blown around too much....

Eh, let's see. I'm not going to worry about miles or stuff like that in '07.
1) Adjust training program to build strength, maintain muscle balance and with any luck, avoid injuries
2) Join local racing club (done already...)
3) Do a couple of races
4) Try a track ride or 2 and see what that's all about
5) Set my 'cross bike up as a real cross bike instead of a wannabe road bike and do some 'cross riding
6) Do a double century or 2, heck maybe even 3 and go for the California Triple Crown
7) Do the Everest Challenge again, this time not as a tourist, and this time, finish both days
That ought to keep me plenty busy.

I increased my mileage goal a little, but basically the same as this year.
4,000 Total outside miles
Complete the RAIN ride in 10 hours
Get to 180 - 185 lbs for the RAIN ride
Don't buy any more bikes...

I will miss my goal of 8,000 miles for this year by roughly 300 miles. Still, I have set my 2007 goal at 10,000 miles and hopefully will make it this time around. I do not race, but do have similar goals as others I am sure to improve my speed and endurance on my solo rides as well.
Take care,
T
