2007 Griffith Park Night Rides - Official Thread

PLEASE READ: https://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.p...postcount=1114

WEATHER REQUIREMENTS: GOING FORWARD, AND CERTAINLY THROUGH WINTER, WE WILL NOT RIDE IF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS EXIST (BY 6:00 PM IN BURBANK):
1. RAIN, EITHER LATE IN THE AFTERNOON OR OCCURRING (I.E. IF THE ROADS ARE WET/SLICK, THE CANYON WILL BE A NIGHTMARE)
2. BELOW 50 DEGREES. IF THE RIDE DOESN'T START IN 50+ DEGREE WEATHER, THE RIDE DOESN'T START (FOR ME, ANYWAY )

Okay, based on feedback (thank you all so much), I want to get these started again for 2007, beginning next Wednesday, January 10th. These will continue every THURSDAY until all of you get sick of me and I have no one to ride with in the dark . Also, I propose that on weeks that I can't make it (there will be some), you guys go without me (i.e. this isn't MY ride...it should be viewed as the group's ride). Rain will cancel (at least for me), and all I ask is that when I bump this thread up each week, those attending just post "I'm in" so that I know I'll have a ride partner(s). I will also note if I'm not able to make it. So, here are the details:

Meet: Pickwick Bowling Alley Parking lot on Riverside Drive
Address: 1001 W Riverside Dr., Burbank, CA 91506-3212.
Time: 6:30pm, roll shortly thereafter
Duration: apprx. 1.5 hours (sometimes a little longer, sometimes a little shorter)
Description: Down Riverside, into park and up into the canyons and back. Loop will change periodically to keep things interesting - suggestions welcomed!
Tempo: Moderate - but no one dropped or left behind (certainly not in the dark!)
Dinner: Optional - at Patty's now since we are all sick of Vive La Fresh.

John, there isn't a ride tonight - it starts next week. I'm lifting weights and taking a spin class tonight as I'll be working a little late. But next week for sure!

Hi Serg. Great idea and I'm asking if possible. But there may be a limit on how many stickies can be a that top of a forum. I'm not sure.

I think it should just go in the stickied 'Upcoming Rides' post which is stickied. People should be able to find it in there and it'll get bumped pretty often anyway.

Lights necessary? Dont have any quite yet. I ride there all the time, just not at night, and not with a group.

Hi Amo, yes, lights are very necessary! Up in the canyon there are no lights (no cars either) and the pavement has some rough patches in it. Of course, with lights from the city and/or moonlight, it's not pitch dark. I have a HID, but I'm neurotic. You don't need something that powerful, but a good light can't hurt!

I got a nice light this morning, and some reflective gear.

I'm up for it... see you on Wednesday. I'm warning you, though, my normal bedtime is about 9:30 so if I get cranky that's just the way it is.
