Weight Loss Contest
Anyone here ever participated in a weight loss contest? The school I teach at is having a biggest loser contest amongst the staff, first weigh in is Friday. 10 bucks to enter, 12 weeks, weigh ins once a month and it goes by body fat % not raw weight loss. Just wondering what experiences people have had with contests like this. I feel pretty confident that I could win it, especially since the last four weeks are when I will be able to ride on the road 7x a week as opposed to trainer M-F and road on weekends.

Sounds like a questionable idea. Rapid weight loss is usually followed by rapid weight gain. Will there be follow up prizes at 1 year, 2 years, etc.?

No follow up but the winners from last year have kept their weight off. I like the idea of having a team and being accountable to other people, so far 32 people have signed up divided into teams of 4-5. Many people are coming up with schemes that I know won't last past 12 weeks, if they last that long. Today we found out they will just be doing percent of weight loss not body fat percentage; which still is fair. Most people are planning on pigging out the day before, I for one will just drink a lot of water before the weigh in. I really want to do a sprint tri this summer. So in an effort to get in extra workouts for the contest and reach the goal of doing a tri I will start running a few times a week at lunch. I also am looking for a place to swim that fits into my schedule. I'll let everyone know how it goes and hopefully I can get some people into riding.

do you know what salt does to your body?
without getting too technical, it causes your body to store everything you eat while it is being affected by the salt into fat

Our company did that last year with a first prize of 400.00 toward a membership of a health club or exercise equipment which could have included putting it toward a purchase of a bike. Guy who won it lost 65 lbs in six months. We're a small company 135 employees and they have started another one this year. So far I'm down four lbs with five months to go.

It was not an ethical or a very serious suggestion.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.
