Training for long distance biking
I completed over 2000 miles informal training program in Florida at about 100 miles/day at 17 MPH with a few days rest. Total time 25 days. I learned a few lessons which I like to share:
The bike is a Treck Madone 5.2 modified wit Aero Bars and Shimano pedals. Pearl Izumi shorts and shirts.
The Bontrager saddle is not suitable for this kind of biking. The sit bones started aching at about 500 miles and got progressively worse. I changed to a Serfas saddle and the problem was solved.
It was necessary to use cream between my legs. I used Cortaid with immediate good results.
Nutrition was double oatmeal and two jelly sandwich for BF. Trail mix for the first 50 miles. A large portion of pasta with butter for lunch. More trail mix for the next 50 miles. Balanced large meal for dinner.
I lost no weight and felt fine at the end of the training. I am planning to go fast across the USA with a supported tour, soon.
