Noob question

Right now I'm, riding an old schwinn world sport. I have 27x1.24 wheels on it. I'm planning on switching it to a fixie. What is the best choice of wheel size to put on it? Or would you advise just buying a hub and lacing it to 27" rims?

If there's room to lower the brake shoes by 4 mm, you can use 622 mm (700 C) wheels. Then again, there's nothing wrong with 630 mm (27 inch) wheels either, but there's less choice in rims and tires in that size.

There are two advantages to sticking with the original 630 mm size:

•The brake(s) will work slightly better.

•You'll have slightly better cornering/pedal clearance.

P.S: It is a good idea to use a descriptive "subject" heading in postings.

I too am converting a 27" Worldsport into a fixie. I kept the rim and the spokes (308mm), bought a high-flange fixed hub (Harris Cyclery house brand), and laced up the rims with a 4 cross pattern. Everything seemed to work out and I only needed to buy the hub, cog, and lockring, which works well for a budget-minded individual.
