Vintage Bike decals?

Hey all,

Got an older frame that I might repaint. Anyone know of any sites that sell decals? Specifically, I'm looking for Bridgestone X0-1 decals.

Tks

Hey lotek,

That "Bicycle Love" pic is hilarious. I remember seeing a printing of it in Dirt Rag magazine a while back, I nearly spilled my coffee I was laughing so hard. It's just weird enough, without going overboard.........

If your present decals are in reasonable condition you can use a camera to take a high-resolution picture of them and get them into your computers graphics program. Then you can clean up the image and print it out on decal paper. https://www.decalpaper.com/ You should print the image on standard paper to make sure you have the image print on the paper the correct size so it exactly matches the old decal. If the old decal rolls around the tube you may need to take several pictures of it by rotating the camera around the tube. You must keep the camera aligned with the tube as you go around the tube. I made a wood frame to hold my camera the exact same distance from the tube for each picture as I rotated it around the tube. Then use the graphics program to stitch the pictures so the image is correct for printing out on the decal paper. Making custom decals is much easier! Of course if reproduction decals are available you would be much better off purchasing them.

Reporting as ordered, sir. Sort of, anyway; spent the past couple days reinstalling the system on my computer. Didn't lose any data, but reloading everything takes forever. Should be back completely tomorrow.

My understanding is that, unless you use special paper and ink, the decals made this way are not very durable, and don't resist UV fading. I've had one of Mike's decals on a bike of mine for about a year. The bike has been left outside way too much, and I haven't bothered to clearcoat over it. When I hold the spare decal that he made up to it (the spare living inside a desk drawer in a nice, comfortable envelope), they look the same.

Besides, Mike's a great guy, and needs to be kept occupied, or else he accumulates too many project bikes.

Has anyone else had trouble with JRrestore responding?

I pm'd him about some Schwinn Sports Tourer decals and he said he had them and gave me the price. Told me to email him at the email listed on his website to get an invoice. I did and he never responded. I then pm'd him and got no response. I waited several weeks and pm'd him again and got no response.

One good "Established" decal maker is Cyclomondo on ebay. He does not carry every sort of decal ever made in stock, but can do custom work, as I recall.

A Gibbs smack for me for not remembering Greg. He does excellent work and did a custom Raleigh marking for me that is just exquisite.

+1 for cyclomondo, very nice quality with fast and friendly emails. I'm sure JRestore's decals are very fine as well. That is where Pastor Bob got his decals for Sporty and they look great!
