Shimano or SRAM or other?

would you recommend buying a full set of the same group components from the same manufacturer? (for example: all Shimano Deore XT components)

are shimano and sram on a par with each other?

if the initial cost wasn't a concern, but ease of use, ease of service/repair and reliability and strength were, then what component setup would you choose for a touring bike.

I am not up to date with all the latest components manufacturers, but since i am spending a significant amount of cash on a touring rig soon I would like to narrow down my choice using the following parameters: (not in any particular order)

- quality/reliability

- cost

- ease of repair/getting parts in the middle of nowhere!

- functionality. considering that the bike will be fully loaded, i'd prefer the gearing shifter to change gears without much strain to itself
