Blaming the victim..

Anyone else watch the show on court tv about solving murders and one of em was a cyclist who got hit from behind and the driver took off?

In their recreation, why did they have to show the cyclist as some clueless idiot with a helmet cocked sideways and swerving precariously all over the shoulder? I sure as hell don't think he was doing that when he got run over...

Maybe HelmetHead had something to do with the reinactment.

In modern mass-media, the cyclist is always a fool. Did you see 40 year old virgin? Just like the Italian is always a mobster and the blond is always dumb. It's a stock character.

What show was it? There was a Dr. G episode where a cyclist was doing exactly that, but had some sort of brain disease that caused the swerving. It was a direct cause of his death. That, and being run over.

Perhaps the rider was?

Kind of pointless to speculate what the re-creation was based on. Either they were basing it on eyewitnesses accounts who said he was swerving all over the road (which could well be exagerated anyway), or they just made it up based on their perception of typical cyclist behavior, and no one challenged it. But we don't know which, unless you want to contact the producer to try to find out.

jokingly--Might be that it is a reverse "placement" ad for the auto and oil industry.

yeah, i agree with the "stock character" thing. just like most musicians will have long hair, people that have blue collar jobs usually drink and smoke, and anyone with a middle eastern accent will be a cab driver.

they're trying to create a character that is instantly recognizable by most people. and sadly, they determined that a bumbling idiot is that best way to showcase a cyclist.
