Not magic but noticeable. Commuting thread someone suggested 2 liter pop bottle as a donor for guards. That would be easier. Tie wrap over brake levers.

I just use heavy mitts + liners & hand warmers. Works down to 0 F.

those look like they'd work well as brush guards on a mountain bike trail too. Thorn bush prickers in your hands is no fun at all.

damn, now those are heavy-duty! The pop bottles might work okay at deflecting wind too. But those that you made would be nice for tight singletrack! I have some bar mitts for my dirt bike that I think now I'll try them on the mtb. They go around the bars and are angled so you just stick your hands in. And then I can wear my regular gloves. I have winter cycling gloves but I get them sweaty even when it's freezing!
I recently installed huge hand guards and grip heaters on my big bike! makes a big difference but parts of hands still get cold from long exposure at speed, while commuting. That's when the bar mitts added to the mix work nicely! They're like $20 at cabelas, or $25 at Tractor Supply Co and have hand warmer pockets.
