Dallas REI Swapmeet - anyone going - anyone selling?

Heard about this from one of the guys in the Roadie forum a few days ago. Dallas REI, next Saturday (17th) at 9am - noon. Anyone planning on going and anyone planning on being there selling? I've got some vintage stuff I might take down and try to get rid of, including the Schwinn touring bike if it's not sold before then.

Well, if you're selling a decent amount of stuff then the $15 is probably worth it. Especially if you have a full bike. And the money goes to a good cause. I'll have a wheelset, couple handlebars, a stem or two, some other odds and ends.

What size is your track bike? Probably huge right?

You know it. 63 c-t

I need to stop riding now if I want my knees to heal up for the summer, and liquidating the lot is the only way that'll work

so I'll probably bring my 21.5" Bianchi S.I.S.S. and see if there's any interest in it

it's a sight to behold

Well I had hoped to have a 27" wheelset ready for sale at the meet, but after this morning's adventure trying to start building that set's replacement... looks like I'll be needing to keep the set around for a bit longer. Humph. It's my luck that I buy a bum rim for my first wheel build.

should we get a bikeforums booth up and running? sounds like we all have enough for a decent-sized display.

Hey, now that wouldn't be a bad idea. See if we can share a space and split the cost of the area. Certainly works for me. Euphoria, want to email the contact and see what we can arrange?

I was planning on going to this if I can get up that early. Isn't it still dark at that time of the morning? I have a box full of stuff, along with a few old wheelsets.

Sun should be up by 9am. Let's just hope on some sun shine and no more of this cloudy overcast crap weather we've been so blessed with.

Hey Marty,

Plan "A" would be to bring the frame and fork with me. I don't have a plan "B" yet.

I can't remember which wheelsets I have left. I think a couple of them are tubular.

Tubular wheelsets you say... This may interfere with that plan of mine to leave with more money than I arrived with.

So far I'll be there with (prices subject to change):

57cm Schwinn Passage and assorted extras for it ($275+).
27" wheelset (5-7sp freewheel, low miles) ($25)
XTR V-Brake set ($15)
90mm 3TTT quill stem ($10)
100mm welded quill stem (missing clamp bolt) ($5)
Several sets of drop handlebars (40-42cm width, 26.0 clamp) ($5-$20)
old 5sp freewheel (cheap)
... and anything else I find small and unneeded now.

Trying to raise a little funds for a new build and or extra cost of a current wheelset build .

I just learned about the swapmeet today. My brother was telling me about the killer deals he got at the swap up in Madison a few weeks ago, and I thought I'll check to see if there's one in Dallas.

I'm going to try to be there, but it'd be to browse/shop, not sell.

hmm, I just thought of an issue with selling. I wouldn't feel safe taking a check, but I am without a handy credit card machine. And how many people would be walking around with $500 in cash? Hmmm...

If someone is serious about buying a full bike at the swapmeet they'll likely have some cash on them. I'd probably take a check for maybe $250+ from a cyclist who could produce their driver's licence and their PBA membership card or something simular. Some way for me to be able to track them down if they write a bum check. But I'd like to hope we can trust fellow cyclists.

After all, I've got a pretty good chunk of change from about 30 members for a whole bunch of jerseys.

If anyone checks this before heading out to the swap meet: I'm about 50/50 if I"m going to be there now. Caught a bit of a stomach bug last night and had a rough night as it worked its way out of my system if you know what I mean. It's currently 7:30 and I'm awake (damn getting up at 6:00 every day for work) so I may try to make it down at least for a bit to browse.

I didn't wake up in time and got there right at 12 (for lack of better directions I ended up circling valley view mall for a half hour)

the place was already empty but I saw some time shoes in my size but all I really needed was a good stem/handlebar combo

I headed out about 11:30. Didn't sell the Schwinn, but did get some XTR brakes and one of my spare sets of handlbars sold. $20 to the good isn't too bad for a couple hours on a Saturday morning. The wind was bad though, making it feel a lot colder than it was.

I walked through it around 11am. I didn't see anything I desperately needed for the prices they were asking, so my wife and I went to lunch.

monogodo - I'm sure I spotted you out there somewhere about then. Some of the prices were a bit high, but depending on what you were looking for/needing I didn't think they were too bad. Solid prices over all, the deals went pretty early. Now I'm kinda glad I didn't sell the Schwinn passage I had Sat as I just traded it for a Serotta with Super Record.

You traded a Schwinn Passage for a Serotta with SR? Damn, were they on crack?

I'm sure I could have found a good deal there if someone had what I was looking for, but no one did (vintage Campy/Stronglight/etc. cranks). I guess I was thinking that it was going to be like the bike swap my brother went to in Madison, WI, where he got $300 cranks for $30.

As for spotting me, I arrived (and left) in a black VW New Beetle with my wife, I was wearing a black leather coat, and she was in a black coat.
