V1nce saying Hi and why this forum rules!
Hey Guys,
Some of you may remember as i used to visit this subforum rather obsessesively, then some things happenend and i moved on to other persuits and forums. Still i had a great time here and never forgot it, the people that frequent this forum are what made it the most remarkable online community i have known, bar none.
Just the other day two regulars independently from each other inquired out of the blue what i was doing and how i was. This despite my long hiatus and radio silence with all the members! How is that for kind and considerate! Huw/William, Yan Downtube and all other members, i salute your great and kind attitude!
Anyway i don't think i will be/post on this forum nearly as much as i used to (don't have internet at home at present) but i will be checking in now and then.
I am very well! I have gotten a job working as a bike salesman and wrench (pretty much my dream job especially as i get a lot of trust, input, responsibility and there is potential to grow in the shop).
Check out our very unusual but cool bikes:
www.beertransportenfietsen.nl
Also i have added some bikes to my fleet (again most unusual but nice) : An old M5 'bent that i will be taking on a Europe tour this summer and a Giant Downtown.
Perhaps someone could bring me up to speed a bit...
Interesting folder developments and new models/brands?
How's my fave Downtube?
What happened to Merc, are they still available? In Europe? How much for?
How about that Tikit ish BF.. any good?
Anything else that i should know as fellow folder nut?
Anyway, here's to you guys, great memories and more good times just around the bend of the road!

Hello Vince,
I am glad that you returned after your hiatus. Sometimes stepping away for a while gives one the necessary persective how much something or someone has influenced his/her's life. My comments on the world of folding bikes that you might have missed out:
Interesting folder developments and new models/brands?
Yes there were some new models that came out during the last 6 months or so. Bike Friday released it's new "tikit" to the world. Dahon has increased it's offering by offering a wider range of models from the new little Curves (both 3 and 5 speed), the disaster combating SOS, and a 24 inch Glide. Downtube has another 16 inch with 8 (yes you read right) speeds and oodles of comfort built right in.
How's my fave Downtube?
I don't own one and I do not plan to in the near future but the company is alive and well. They are doing brisk business and expanding out with the number of bikes sold as well as models.
What happened to Merc, are they still available? In Europe? How much for?
Merc is another thriving company with new followers all the time. I don't have the monetary cost.
How about that Tikit ish BF.. any good?
No one here can say at this time as it is so new. But I think that will change very soon.
Anything else that i should know as fellow folder nut?
Many of us on this forum (and others) have created their own web sites on folding bikes. The world of folders are growing faster most anywhere I could see. Soon we will be swallowed up by the legions of folder nuts riding about.

You posted twice and I replied to the other one!
Welcome back! You know how to enter a room!
1) ...Ask Yan!
2) £330 GBP on ebay UK - one auction a week; red, green or black powdercoat, lots of cheap spares online through ebay shop.
(people inc. myself are obsessing about combining the best bits of a Merc/Brompton for silly expensive light singlespeed fun. Or maybe that's just me - copying Steve Parry)
3) Looks good. I like the very definite, precise looking 'clunk-click' fold. Not really small enough though.
4) Swifts still popular, Dahon's are looking sexier, someone fitted 24" wheels to a Twenty (yay!), Some Americans have been retrofitting shotguns* into their seatposts...
*May not in fact be true..
Nice to have you back!

v1nce, welcome back!
I had wondered what happened to you... were you involved in any of that mess with the squatters and riots in Copenhagen?
I have pointed several people, on and off the forums, to your excellent write-up about "choosing the perfect bike...for you".
Glad to hear that you're doing well. Don't wait so long to check in and say hello!
PS: the link to your store isn't working

Need to go do some measurements. The only question remaining is how to integrate pump-action functionality into it. As an American, I refuse to ride around on my bike with anything less than a 12-gauge, 5-shot capability.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind welcomes. Nice to 'see' you guys again. Thanks for all the info!
I seem to have made a typo on that website for the company i work for (i am rather new there ha ha), i think it should read...:
www.beertransportfietsen.nl
(so minus the -en in the middle).
What we do is sell the broadest range of 'bakfietsen' or Cargobikes in the Netherlands. We have a lot of different brands in both two wheeled and three wheeled variants. We also sell sturdy as heck "normal" Dutch bikes from brands such as Azor and Union and many others. Azor in particular has stolen my heart because of what they make and sell but also their vision and reasons for how they operate. I went and visited their factory with the company and talked at length with the owner. A man with true heart and a vision for bikes. In the factory i saw that half the people that work there have disabilities yet they do an amazing job. One guy was 100% blind yet was putting tires around rims at twice the speed i could ever hope to manage... and he was obviously having great fun doing it.
Anyway, enough propaganda, not that i can sell you guys much or would want to, unfortunately we don't do folders..... yet....!
Glad to be back.

Oh, as for the Riots, no,.. i was not involved. But to be frank there was a large part of me that wanted to be there. I have looked into the motivations and background of it all and it appears to be very different than the regular media have made it out to be. It really seems like the people in Copenhagen had a lot of good reason to be very angry.
Anyway, to remain on the violent off topic thing, how about using bottle cages to hold ready to go Molotov cocktails? I mean sometimes you just need more "dispersion" power than even a 12 guage can offer... oh dear oh dear, we might just turn into gun toting, folder ratbike riding Mad Max style nutters.. hmm.. Sounds good to me!
More on topic, it is weird, about Merc, i heard that some of their bikes got demonstratively destroyed at a major Dutch bike show recently,.. due to patent infringement, so is this hogg wash? Are they all legit these days? Available how and where...?
@ Wav, too bad i did not get your call! Pity. My nr. remains the same!
As for my 20, of course i still have it! In fact i have expanded my bike fleet with a
M5 recumbent and a 20 inch non Fold Giant Downtown, both amazing bikes.
My 20 is a bit jealous though, does not get as much attentions as she ones did.

How about a second bottle-rack attached to the saddle with an adapted container containing old cooking oil and carpet tacks to discourage the bands of feral hoodies coming after you on Vespas...
