On the right with white shoulders. Was sprinting on the wrong lap, but ended up getting 3rd on the sprint on the next lap. Still learning the rules.

Got ninth, but won money because I was top in the senior class. more information:

Here's the 4/5 finish from yesterday, got 3rd.

That would be the elbow-throwing guy in gold shoes behind me, I was just happy to make it around him safely:

This racing stuff is fun, even if I'm probaby scheduled to crash soon..

So far just at Seward Park (where the pics above are from) and at Ballard (also in Seattle).

Since I don't drive it limits the places/races I can get to, but I'll probably branch out to other races eventually by bumming rides or just riding to get there.

+1 to that... and there you have one of my main motivations to join a team.
I just moved off the hill yesterday- but if you want to car-pool to some race later on this summer (Kent, others?) we should talk about splitting a zipcar? two bikes would easily fit in a car, and the subaru wagons come with roof racks.
I'll PM you.

This past Saturday was my first race. Men's Cat5, Sherman Park Crit, Chicago. I think this was the final lap. My legs have never hurt so much That's me in the Voler jersey.

I like your bike. Keep riding hard.

P.S. Its safer to ride in your drops in a crit. You have more control that way. I would hate to see you wreck that sweet bike.

That is a nice ride. A group of guys I've raced with has a couple of those and I lifted one up the other week. The darn thing just about shot up into the sky, I was not prepared for how light it was.

Haha. Thanks man. Glad you escaped that horrible crash in the 4's. I'll be at Soldier Field on Wednesday. May do some of those Matteson races. Superweek doesn't have cat5 races does it?

There is a 4/5 and a Masters 4/5 back to back just about every day. It's a beautiful thing. I am racing 8 times in the first 5 days.

Welcome to racing! That was a good entry race and you had crappy conditions to boot. Next: a race with hills that really hurt followed by another race with old testament wind--then, no race will scare you.

My only advice: seriously reconsider if you were going to join the empire! If you don't know who they are...you will. They have too many people. They're not bad, in fact, I'm friends with many (from outside racing) but for new racers it's an easy choice to sign up with them and you may loose some of the social element of racing. They have fantastic resources and tons of collective experience but just not enough love to go around.

anyway, welcome aboard! And nice ride!

I know who you are talking about and yes, I think they are almost "too big." I would like to join a relatively small (compared to them) group so I can learn and have much more contact with racers.

When I'm out riding, I see so many people with those jerseys on! I live on the southside and not familiar with many teams that are based in the city. Seems like they are all in the suburbs somewhere. As far as hilly races, I need to lose about 20 pounds I had fun on Saturday though and looking forward to more racing and then joining a team in the fall. It's probably too late now I imagine.

because he looks tall (for a dutch dude, he's average), or because i should be closer to his wheel (point taken)?

The tall thing. I was figuring a corner approaching on the draft distance (I often gap before a corner and coast back into the draft).

that was more a turn, than a corner. granted, that pics was taken right before the short sharp hill, which always screws up peoples rhythm.

now... speaking of tall, you should see one of my teammates. best draft in the peloton.
