Amazing climb, that one. Nice photo, though you don't look like you're suffering all that much...

1995. I'm on the left. Picture poster is in the middle, his teammate to the right. Both of them joined me at Carpe Diem Racing in two years (1997). Not sure who took the picture. It's either the end of the race and I'm following the leadout guy (to the right) or it's not and we're all at the back. My focus seems to show that it's the last lap of the race. Turn One at the Bethel Spring Series, at the top of a hill, hence the low gears.

I was probably in the 138-142 lbs range. I'd be in the low 130s mid season and a 5 point skin pinch test resulted in a total of something like 7mm of pinch. It was below the threshold for the skin caliper chart thing. One of my stronger years. I might have won the Series that year but I have to check.

What's interesting to me is that the lot in the background is now a parking lot with a large building back there (where we've had registration for a few years).

Photographer is Christina Lawrie, here I am driving the four man break at the Faster Crit in Scottsdale, which I unfortunately placed fourth in because I'm an idiot.

I may try them on my new bar/stem set up, which I'll reveal when I get it set up. Not sure if I'll gain or lose clearance.

Hey, we don't draft like Cat 5s. This was my brother in law, and he was tucked in tight with a full wheel overlap -- my fitness jumped more than anticipated since we signed up, so we were conserving him for the climbs ahead. Nice to be able to trust him, and vice-versa -- we had a couple light knuckle-hip contacts with no reaction.

Good looking pic WR. If I had one that good, I would consider hanging it on the wall.

Needed it too. My teammate was faltering at the halfway point, barely hanging on. We came across two friends who went off before us and had flatted. I stopped and told my teammate to keep going. I changed the flat for these guys (executive types... not wrench types). Then chased my teammate down, catching him with 4.5 miles to go.

Besides, it's a tradition now. I won a state TTT championship with a frame pump on my bike... and several big crits. And a road race. Not worth the trouble to re-route the velcro these days.
