Here's my Bichon Frise puppy on her first bike ride (3/25/07). Today was her third ride. She seems to like it!

It's the "Pet Cruiser" (which I bought online). I had a neighbor who worked at a nearby bike shop install it on my Giant hybrid. Steering isn't altered too much. It's surprisingly easy to ride with the extra weight on the handlebars. And more weight to peddle about means more calories expended, so no problema!

Yes, I checked out Cynthia's Twigs, but opted for the more "sporty" spice bag. I like all the pockets ... the reflective material on the sides ... the cushions ... and a few other benefits/features which I felt would be better suited to my pooch's needs.

Dogs are naturally adventurous. It's one of the characteristics that brought them in from the edge of the camp fire, to our feet, so long ago. They will go where we go and would stand on the wing of an airplane if we did the same. Just be aware that if Puppy suddenly shifts to get a better look at something, your steering will shift, too.

Puppies can sometimes jump out of baskets for another dog, squirrel, cat, etc. Use a leash or a harness attached to the bottom of the bag. You may need to add a swivel to keep it from getting twisted as the dog turns around. A small dog seat belt harness attached to the bag at the bottom of the harness works great.

The bike bag comes with a "seat belt" which attaches to either your own harness or one that comes with the bike bag. I lock her in tight enough so she can still move about A BIT - not too much - and at her current weight of 6 lbs, her slight movements don't bother me. I will, however, keep a close monitor on that aspect - so thanks for mentioning. Great tips and comments all! 2manybikes, I see you use a cart on the back for your big dog. Neat!

It sounds like a nice dog bag.

Here's Bailey harnessed in fastened under his belly so he can stand, sit, lie down, turn around, but not get out. You almost can't see the harness. He has tried to get out, he can't. He's about 34 lbs.

If he's trying to get out he doesnt wanna be in there. Stop forcing him to ride with you.

He wants to ride so much he does not get out when we get home. When a dog sees a running squirrell or a friend they may get excited and try to jump out and run after them. Just like a dog would run after a squirell right in front of a car. That's what dogs do. Humans should know this.

Next time your dog gets excited and wants to run in front of a car let him go, he doesn't wanna be on the sidewalk, stop forcing him to stay with you. Let him get run over, it's what he wants right?

How about walking a dog on a leash and it tries to pull away? Does that mean don't walk the dog on a leash???? No...

You said your dog tries to get out but can't - that's different than saying he's not liking the ride and always trying to break out/free.
