A little MTB porn
Well she is just about done. My little dj/ds rig. All I have left to do is put the tensioner on and the chain. For a total cost of 200 bucks she aint a bad little bike.

Oh yeah, and for you SS guys, check out the rear hub. A WOOdman ss hub with a 10mm bolt on axle.

Total cost of what you actually had to buy right? You must have had a bunch of those parts already. Its sweet....I wish I had enough money to build a DJ bike.

Mael, the Cowen is just a Chute/Scrap with a custom paint job. I got the Stinky Primo insted.
Jim and Mael, when jumping as Mael said there is no need for a front brake same for DS. And yes, you can still do bar spins even with the cable. I added an extra 8" or so to the lenght of the line so it just twists around the head tube. You just need to remember to spin the bars in the opposite direction the next time.
Total cost included parts I already had. Other wise she would have cost me just over $800.

DiL, I will find out today when we weigh her but it should be somewhere around 15lbs.

Is the Woodman hub new? Is that an Atom Lab rim or?
What kind of tensioner are you gonna use? Is it the type that mounts to your derailleur hanger? If not, are you gonna get creative with the grinder to cut off the extra part of the hanger?

The rear wheel is built with the Woodman ss hub and laced to an AtomLab AirCorps rim with 14g spokes.
As for a tensioner I am going to use one made by AC. It mounts to the hanger and is adjustable.

I'm not asking this to be a dick, I'm genuinely curious. Why would you want a bike like that in single speed? Also, what is special about the hub? Is it that large just so it can take abuse?

For dirt jumping I never switch gears, it is all about the flow and momentum. I will also be using it at the local BMX track witch I also stay in one gear. Same goes for when we ride street.
It is a large hub because it nees to handle the forces placed on it from the disc brake and also the pounding it will take when jumping (if there is no tranny).
Also, unlike most single speeds it uses a freewheel just like a mtb hub so you do not need a separate freewheel, only a sproket which will give you a broader range of ratios to use depending on what you are doing.

Sorry, DBD. That bike simply cannot weigh 15 lbs. Lance's climbing bike is 15 and change!
Think about it...4-5 pound frame, 4-5 pound fork. 1.5 pounds for crank, those maxxis tires are probably in the 2 pound range each, and handle bars, stems, seat, and seatpost are probably around another pound and a half. thats 17 right there...And thats being quite liberal, not even mentioning the brake...
Nice bike though, I would mind having a bike like that...a pure basher...
