Co. Recalls Recumbent Bicycles

By Associated Press
August 14, 2001
WASHINGTON -- An Oregon company is recalling 1,400 recumbent bicycles with defective suspension forks that can cause riders to lose control and fall.
BikeE Corp., of Corvallis, Ore., has received two reports of link pins falling out of forks, resulting in minor injuries to two riders, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.
The defective forks were used on the front suspension of the BikeE FX models and on the full suspension of the RX models.
The recalled 2000 and 2001 models have a serial number located below the crank bottom bracket that starts with "F" and is followed by five digits or starts with "B" followed by a letter and six digits.
Recumbent bicycles have lowered seats and foot pedals below the handle bars, allowing riders to sit in a horizontal position.
BikeE dealers sold the bicycles from December 1999 through August 2001 for between $1,500 and $1,750.
The safety commission advises consumers to stop using these bicycles immediately and return them to the nearest BikeE authorized dealer for free repairs.
For more information, consumers can call BikeE toll-free at 1-800-231-3136
between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday.
