Using a 10-spd Campy derailleur on a 9 spd?
Hey all-
Quick question - is it possible to use a (long cage) 10 speed campy rear derailleur on a 9 speed bike? (Bianchi Veloce triple - want to change from 13-26 to 13-28 but need to swap my current medium cage to a long cage. Looking at some on eBay as I'm on a budget.

I use a campy short cage on a 13-26, medium should handle 28 teeth easy unless you have a really wide range triple up front. What is the big and small ring count?

The campy site (among others, I think I actually read it on here 
) claimed you need a long cage for anything bigger than a 13-26 with a triple. I have a 30-42-52 on the front.

The numbers campy, shimano, sram ect. give you are usually a few teeth conservative. Just make sure your chain is long enough and I think you'll be fine.

Assuming that the chain lenfth is correct, if you experience slack chain when in a small ring to small cog combination then you do need a long cage derailleur, or stay out of that combination. Don't ride with a slack chain.

Awesome, thanks! My biggest issue is finding myself constantly switching between the 30 and 42 as I'll run out of steam on the 42-26, then shift to the 30 and find myself cross-chaining when the going gets easier. I like to spin, plus I find a real "granny gear" helps me on the hills.
