You can ride better with age!

I remember first learning to ride a bicycle at 7 years old, probably a year or two after most of my friends. For the longest time I could not keep up with them, partly because I was a chubby kid and slow, and partly for just learning later than them. Well fast forward 32 years to May of 2004 and most of my friends can't keep up with me! I rode the Bike NY with a mountain bike in 4 hrs (42 miles around the five boroughs of Manhattan) which I am told is pretty good for a mountain bike! I enjoy riding near my home in Baldwin, LI, NY. We have local parks and the streets are well paved for easy riding. One of favorite trails is the Massapequa-Bethpage Park trail which is about 13 miles round trip. There is also great biking along the Wantagh State Pkwy to Jones Beach, one of the best beaches in the world! Biking on Long Island is great fun, great exercise at any age!

I am always looking for someone to ride with, so if you are interested you can email me at drkesten@optonline.net.

Happy Biking!

Hello drbruce--I am certain that someone will be happy to join you after a challenge like that! I have a friend who lives in Levittown, and I've seen that wonderful looking trail of which you speak--it looked like great fun.

Welcome to BF!

My friend Catherine doesn't ride unfortunately. I know I was looking longingly out the window as we drove by the trail and asked her about it, but she does not even have a bike . If you are ever out our way, there is both excellent mountain biking and road cycling, and some very nice MUPs [Multiple Use Paths] as well .
