LX crankset

just a quick one.. maybe im not understanding what im reading correctly but.. the lx says its 9 speed "ready".. does that mean its only for 9 speed chains or can you still use a 7 speed chaing on the crank set too?

No a seven speed chain is too wide. i reccomend you use a 9 speed chain for 9 spped stuff.

Yes you can. You can use a 7,8, or 9 speed chain with the mega 9 rings on the LX cranks. If you have a 7 speed cassette a 9 speed chain is too narrow for it.
