When do New modle year bikes start shipping?
I was surfing links off of Bikeforums and noticed that Bikesdirect shows a preorder for an 08 bike that is supposed to ship in July 07. Do bike companies work like automobile manufactures? That ship next model year in July?

yes pretty much,car companies vary as well. Some Bike Co. present their 2007 in very early fall 2006.
This gives them and the LBSs a boost to meet the Christmas gift rush.some LBSs are "broke " at that time and/or they've yet to un-load the old stuff.Ussually by this time,a store should have the 2007's in.They run-out of the most popular bikes and sizes often by mid-late summer and so completes the cycle.The current year's models are in stock at the central depots and warehouses by September.

You will start to see most '08s - or at least full specs and estimated arrival dates by late July or early August.
